In addition to the net foreign currency input that the agricultural sector provides to our country as an export pillar; It is a sector of strategic importance in terms of our country's economy with its contribution to the related sectors such as production, packaging and logistics and to employment, starting from the production phase, agricultural labor, workers employed in packing houses, packaging phase and transportation phase are taken into account. On the other hand, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector; It is one of the most important sub-sectors in the agricultural sector. Turkey is one of the rare countries where fruits and vegetables can be grown in good conditions and with high quality thanks to the fertile and wide agricultural areas suitable for production and the ecological differences of different regions.
Looking at the export history of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in Turkey, after the liberalization of imported seeds and saplings in 1980, it was possible to adjust the climate, seed planting times and extend the production period with the production of international varieties in Turkey.
In recent years, the harvesting and post-harvest storage of the products (cooling, atmosphere-controlled cold air, modern packaging facility) and packaging are done with the latest technology and are transported to the market with suitable vehicles and conditions. Multinational and local private companies operating in the export sector have started to grow fruit (cherry, apple, grape, citrus products) in large areas with the saplings they imported from abroad, and they process the obtained products in their own modern facilities and sell them abroad and domestically. Again, some companies produce in accordance with the consumer's demand with the Contracted Farmer system in vegetable farming.
All kinds of quality systems for the preparation of the product for export from the garden-field and for ensuring product safety are meticulously controlled by the Turkish Representatives of the European Inspection Companies on this subject, and the necessary certification (HACCP, EUROPGAP, ISO etc.) is carried out. Our most important market in the Turkish Fresh Fruit and Vegetable sector, where quality is prioritized, is the European and Middle Eastern.
